@ZooElephantsMan Its a really wonderful small aquarium with quite the quality exhibitry for its size. The native turtle and amphibian collection is especially strong. I'd recommend a visit.
@SusScrofa When I was based in NYC I considered going here and to some of the other places on Long Island, but I never got around to it. This is a small aquarium, but your pictures are nice and make the aquarium look more attractive than I expected. Maybe some day I will get another chance to check out this place and a couple of the other zoos and aquariums on Long Island-- although I've been warned that a fair few of the other ones are pretty theme-park-esque.
@ZooElephantsMan Oh yeah, I remember you asked about Long Island Game Farm a while ago
The main "zoos" on Long Island look very overpriced for what they offer but there are some nature centers and smaller facilities in the region that are free or very low cost. You could also easily combine 3-4 of these in a day trip and that would be recommended as it wouldn't be worth driving from the city into LI for just one place. Besides Cold Spring, I've been to these ones:
Holtsville Wildlife Ecology Center
Sweetbriar Nature Center
Quogue Wildlife Refuge (next to LI Pine Barrens)
Tackapausha Wildlife Refuge
Ive uploaded photos for the first 3 and will eventually upload photos of Tackapausha as well.
