Seems to me that this species, once very common in zoos, is becoming rarer in favour of the white-lipped species.....

Here in the United States, Collared peccaries are also becoming more rare, but the difference between Europe and the US is that in the US its Chacoan peccaries ( Catagonus wagneri) are what zoos prefer, as for White lipped peccaries (Tayassu pecari), there have not been any in the US since the 1980s, they had them at San Diego Zoo, Los Angeles Zoo, Central Park Zoo, and Bronx Zoo (I think)

According to Lee S Crandall's book The Management of Wild Mammals in Captivity, a difference between the husbandry of white lipped peccaries and the husbandry of Collared peccaries is that White lipped peccaries are more sensitive to cold weather
