The Colobus monkeys have become more comfortable around human visitors since the Monkey Valley opened at London zoo last year. They jump and run quite close by!
Too bad the AZA is too hesitant to do this in the US..... this exhibit looks like a lot of fun!!! Maybe if the AZA zoos did it with waivers it'd be ok.
Yes it's amazing how much more you get from the experience without fences in between, the interactions between the colobus seems a lot more interesting to follow, and they have much more space to run and jump around than the old enclosure. Visitor numbers are limited, and there are staff on watch but I haven't seen any problems. I don't know the AZA rules, but here there was some surprise that such a relatively large species could have a walk-through.
