Cologne Zoo - Madagascar House

The indoor exhibit for blue-eyed black lemurs inside the Madagascar House in Cologne Zoo, Germany. This is a decent indoor exhibit. It is not very big but adequate and very light with many climbing frames inside it.

The Madagascar House itself is quite interesting and shows how easy it can be to enhance the visitor experience. Woodchips on the floor and several plants hanging down and growing by the viewing windows contributes to a very forest-like atmosphere.

I have visited this area on a couple of occasions and found the house exceptionally well-designed for lemurs in a country with variable weather. With regard to the outdoor spaces, I would like to see them bigger in size.Cologne has an enviable lemur collection and is a must for the serious zoo enthusiast, particularly anybody interested in designing quality exhibits in small spaces (obviously this does not apply to their vast elephant exhibit).I would plan to visit at least two days and take plenty of notes and photos. As a footnote, Cologne have a particularly friendly staff, both in animal and non-animal areas.A wonderful zoo for a marvellous city.
