Adult male, Oakfield Aviaries, Chester, 18th July 1973. Scanned from a Kodachrome slide.
Vidua chalybeata (perhaps) - there is a species flock of combassous which are brood-parasites on the species flock of firefinches, each combassou species using a separate firefinch species as hosts. The female combassous are indistinguishable LBJs, the males have different songs and slightly difference sheens on their dark plumage - so this out of season male could be virtually any of them.
