Moorhen or Coot chick

Taken in Cannon Hill Park this is at the rear of Birmingham Nature Centre

Didn\'t know ducks had hairdressers, wonder how much it cost in feathers to have ginger highlights put in

It is a coot chick.

I only know because the other picture you took has a adult coot (I know a little about our common wild birds )

Coots do look similar to Moor hens, well I can see why they are sometimes confused for each other.

sorry about being pedantic but I thought you may appreciate the additional info....coots and moorhens are actually rails not ducks, although they are quite similar in appearance and behaviour

If you look at their feet, coots have funny individually-lobed toes rather than fully webbed ones like those of ducks'
