Around the basin there are oystercatcher, redshank, breeding avocets, a colony of black-headed gulls, nesting common terns, lots of small warblers (such as whitethroat and chiffchaff), little grebe, lapwings, shelduck, some cormorants, reed buntings, linnets and often a few tufted ducks. Winter visitors include ringed and grey plover, huge flocks of red knot, brent and pink-footed geese and teal while rarer sightings include kingfishers and bearded tits. All in all, it's a pretty nice place any time of the year.
