Auks have left their breeding cliffs by this time of year, but puffins, guillemots and razorbills were all about on the water offshore.

@Maguari: I've been looking for a good place to see these on my end of the Atlantic...maybe I should come over to your side. I am enjoying looking at your wild sea bird photos. Are Atlantic puffins pretty easy to see, or do you have to go out to remote areas to find them?

Not too remote - South Stack in Anglesey is a good spot where they can be seen from near a main road (not exactly on the mainland, but on an island joined to another island and then to the mainland by road bridges!). I've not yet been, but Bempton in Yorkshire is also supposed to be a good spot for them.

The main thing to is to be in a known site and to be there at the right time - early summer (April-July, ideally). Even by the 1st of August (when I took this shot) the birds were well offshore.

There's a good overview of Atlantic Puffins in the UK here: The RSPB: Puffin

Bempton is a very good place for seabirds while the Farne Islands are particuarly special-I got very close and some incredible views of puffins there. And yes South Stack is also very good-the little known 'North Stack' the opposite side of the mountain was good but very windy.

I've never been to grassholm or Ramsey but went to nearby Skokholm which had many puffins as well as the wonderful Manx Shearwaters.
