looks like a chaffinch to me, but I'm not sure of confusion species in the UK

I wouldn't say chaffinch, the picture distorts the shape, It's roughly the size of a starling

it looks very like a female chaffinch. look at the wing markings Chaffinch - bird photos by Sandra Palme

The pose looks a little like a pied flycatcher to me, but I was watching them today in an oak wood (of course), so the tiled roof looks incongruous. They are also smaller than a chaffinch. So I think this is a fluffed up, hunched hen chaffinch trying to confuse you

Almost 100 % sure it's a chatfinch.
