A rare sight at Slimbridge, it was feeding on insects emerging at the water's surface. Pool on Tack Piece, from the Robbie Garnett Hide, 23rd March 2014.
My grandfather would always have called this bird a dabchick, which I think is a lovely name.

While I would always use 'Little Grebe' when labelling a photo or writing a species list, I quite often use 'dabchick' in conversation. My dad and grandad would use it in almost all circumstances. I treat it as a nickname, but it's a very characterful one.

Same here; when referring to it for official purposes I call it "Little Grebe", and when referring to it otherwise I almost always call it a "dabchick"
