I think I read somewhere on ZooChat that there were no longer any nilgai left in ZAA zoos in Australia, but there might have been some in private hands - maybe hunting ranches?

There is a single lone female in either Monarto or Werribee (not sure which one, and she is off-show). Otherwise I think there are individuals in hunting ranches who came from Tipperary Wildlife Park.

According to the listing for nilgai on the ZAA's current census:

As of Nov 2010 species now absent from Australian ZAA collections

which would include both Monarto and Werribee, on or off-display.

That is interesting then, she must have unfortunately died. I believe she was an old animal so it wouldn't surprise me.

Well I am certain up until the end of 2009 Monarto had a pair, and up until about the end of 2010 Monarto had a male. But I had no idea Werribee had one for the past couple of years.
