Big Cat House at Blackpool Zoo 17/07/11

The left side is home to an Amur tiger and the left home to African (Zoo Generic) lions.
Not very pretty. Convert this photo to black and white and it looks like it could have been taken in the 1930s.

Yes as you say it's not very pretty but in 2007 they revamped both outdoor areas for the Cats. However the indoor areas aren't very nice, I don't know if they plan to revamp it in the future we'll wait and see.

The revamped outdoor areas seem adequate from photos but also quite plain, as for example the green metal fencing surrounds what is mainly a grassy field for the tigers. There are a few small trees in the enclosure, and the lions have a pile of rocks, but both enclosures are simple, effective but not particularly attractive. I'm surprised that the zoo has the indoor dens on display as those are definitely not aesthetically pleasing.

The Zoo has two on-show dens [each] for the Lions and Tiger. They also have one off-show den for both. I believe they can't shut the entrance to this with it having no door on, so if they have cubs (Like the Lions did in 2009) then the cubs and mother will be in that den.:)

Given the way the weather is in northern England in the winter, indoor viewing is very much a necessity! But no, not the prettiest by any means.
