Pongo pygmaeus

Male 'Raman'
At 13, he seems to be developing cheek flanges. Does he have any other signs of maturity?

Well in Winter 2010, he was separated from the females. A keeper I spoke to said he had grown a lot since being separated. He has grown quite a lot, and does look a similar size to Colchester male, Tiga.

No other zoo would want him if he's a non-breeder. Is there room for him and a new male? It's a shame solutions to situations like this are so drawn out that the females waste valuable breeding years.

I think it would be a good idea for zoos to have the facilities to hold more than one male anyway to help spread the genes around.

Space would be a problem, they have four on-show dens plus an additional on-show area for Gorillas or Orangs. The Zoo are holding on to Raman, if nothing happens in a few years maybe then a new male could arrive and Raman could go to Chester in RORA?
