Iberian Wolf exhibit at Blackpool Zoo 19/05/12

Not yet complete but it's looks near enough complete. This is the main exhibit but at the back of the house there is another smaller exhibit.

Wonder if they will show themselves at Blackpool. At Howletts/PL they are virtually invisible in the public hours- you get only the briefest glimpses if you are very lucky.

I also wonder if that's why Woburn have passed theirs on to Blackpool, or are they keeping some of them?

Blackpool received six due to Woburn's pack having fighting problems, I think it was the three sons. Woburn bred two litters in two years, two cubs were born in 2010 and four in 2011.

The 2011 cubs were 2.2 and the 2010's 1.1. So Blackpool received 1.5 and Woburn kept 3.1 I think.

I sure I was told that Blackpool had only recieved 1.4,but I could be wrong,although I believe Woburn do have 3.1.

Sorry, it was a typo:p current standings are;

Blackpool - 1.4 (Adult pair plus female from first litter and females from second litter)

Woburn - 3.1 (Male from first litter and 2.1 from second litter)

Hopefully Blackpool will breed there's.

Blackpool received six due to Woburn's pack having fighting problems,

Sounds like the same story as at Howletts/PL. That's why they have split them into single-sex groups between the two sites. Also they didn't want to breed any more as they are hard to rehome (perhaps because of the invisibility factor?)

Not sure why this subspecies should be so shy in captivity- at least the zoo-bred ones. I have looked at some youtube videos of some 'tame' ones in Spain- in an enclosure- and they look calm enough with their handlers though even then are rather cowed-looking.
