EDIT: Sorry, that information was not from the website but from Wikipedia where it says that the vultures have been released back into the wild under the sub-heading African Savannah.

which is why I asked "what?". Wikipedia and another site that has cut-and-pasted from Wikipedia are the only two sites that mention this (apart for this thread now). I looked on the Perth Zoo website previously and it didn't say anything about it. I think it unlikely Perth Zoo a) even had African vultures to begin with; b) that they would be kept in an open African savannah exhibit; and c) that they would be returned to Africa to be released.

Sorry, I thought it was mentioned on their website but obviously not. b) could be a possibility as many zoos overseas do have vultures in mixed exhibits that are open-air that are either clipped or pinioned.
If they were pinioned then release would have been impossible. In addition, have there ever been any african vultures held in australia? After trolling ISIS I have not found any.
Definately none currently, Adelaide Zoo in the past had hooded and king vultures (not sure when) in the history of the zoo, but I'm not sure about any others.
