I know it was for sale, not sure if anyone has bought it yet though.

Whether a keeper is inside or not, the padlock should have been locked onto the wire if not through the bolt.

This is the padlock to the runway, there are no animals in here, each of the seperate enclosures also have a padlock, this one is unlocked during daily cleaning and then re-locked. so all this about monkeys getting to it is rubbish. For a start this door is next to racoons, the capuchins are far away on the other side. Of course they would be able to reach it just fine .....if they had 20 foot arms.
You can try to defend this any way you like, but it still shows bad practice which i very much hope has stopped!!

In post #5 Jacks Zoo states there was no-one in the exhibits or out the back cleaning.

And from what I can see in the pic, this runway acts as an airlock or safety porch. In which case, because the cages contain primates, I would definitely be padlocking myself in.

There wasn't any staff present in this enclosure when I took this picture, in fact we had to notify staff to tell them it was unlocked

This lock is open because somone is inside the service area cleaning, keepers can't lock themselves inside from the inside. the door is still bolted whilst it is being cleaned but it is againsed health and safety regulations to padlock yourself inside an area where animals could potentialy get to you. The padlock is locked whenever the area is un attended by a keeper but unless you are thick you will realise it can't be padlocked when someone is standing inside.

Maybe if you had read my post above you would have seen that I had already stated that there were no keepers present in this enclosure-and we notified staff that the padlock was off-as they were unaware.

I cant understand why 'Borth fans' keep popping up and trying to defend these pictures I took several years ago? The pictures speak for themselves -I'm sure some minor improvements have been made since my visit but this still ranks as one of the worst UK collections IMHO.

It has been on the market for several years now because no one in there right mind would touch the place with a barge pole!
