All i remember about the polar bears in the late 80s early 90s they had 2 misha and nina, Sebastian had left and cynthia had died, Misha (male) had been rescued from a circus and in his circus cage (in a truck) could only do 4 paces foward and 4 back and he continued to do that at the zoo it was incredibly depressing. And in the end the desicion was made to shoot him because he went mad. soon after in 1991 Nina was shot for she also went mad.
not very profetional, how do you tell if an animal has gone mad

Hi remember seeing the Polar Bears when I was a kid, the thing that still sticks in my mind is the constant pacing up and down. The enclosure was VERY small for the Bears and they really did not look happy. It was very sad.
This enclosure was smaller than the mappin terraces Polar Bear enclosure, only slightly, plus it was a pit, so the bears had nothing to watch outside the edges of their enclosure wall. It was not, as you can imagine, much more suitable for tigers, and they didn't stay long in this exhibit.
