Took this myself on my phone so it's not the greatest, but he looks really content in this one I think
I myself have never seen a lion hiss, I have seen smaller species of cats showing this behavior - Servals for instance.
What i mean by snarling is the showing of the teeth with a bit of a growl underneath - Often used as a quick warning and during fights.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu90doyMdi4]YouTube - Young lions annoy old male[/ame] - Unfortunately the sound is not good, but this is typically what a 'snarl' is to be used for.It has not got the full power of a growl. Or the Earthy power of a full roar - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOaQmkAlhUA]YouTube - Makonnen the Lion Roaring[/ame].
Feel free to discuss lions with me - I am more than happy.
Kind Regards

Im lost!! Do you call raising its lip, snarling? Then if you do, we disagree. No big deal there, people will always disagree.

No no no, these are just communication sounds between animals and an animal sounding his presence, there is no "snarling" here just "talking."

Its the noise aswell, A short couldnt really call it a growl. But it is definately not a hiss of any description.

Take it how you will DawnB.
Like i have said before please tell me what you know about lions and we can pass information on, Be great to see what we both know and to gain more knowledge :).

I know they shouldnt be portrayed as "friendly" on a public forum, I find it disrespectful to a wild animal to say the least.

But you don't find them being caged disrespectful?

Yes Taun, in all honesty I do, but I also see the need for Zoos and the breeding of certain species, however when the disrespect is paraded on a public forum, its no wonder "some" organisations target them.

Do you not think that some of your comments could also lead to them targeting zoos? (not just in this thread)

I find that you’re very negative towards zoos in general. Could you maybe use more constructive criticism? If not maybe you would be better off at another site that does not like zoos that much. ;) Also try not to come across so rude in your posts.

I also think if we lived in an ideal world we should not have zoos, but we don't live in an ideal world.
