Thats ace!! Ill remind my nieces and nephews not to play with the Gorillas next time we visit the jungle!!:D:D:D:D:rolleyes:
Contradiction springs to mind

For Riziki. Re: facial rubbing.

Some examples of facial rubbing NOT being a sign of affection. This Cat was marking and scenting, yet she uses the rubbing you say is affection. Please remember many things that animals do have "other" meanings too.

Im sorry if that was directed to me I didnt say she was doing her job "wrong" I said in my opinion and others on the thread, thats she is creating the wrong impression of a "wild" animal supposedly kept that way, but in this instance fussed and petted through mesh with one hand while in the other hand she uses her mobile phone to take a photo of herself doing it.

"...and others on the thread" is a beauty! Here you do exactly the same as most people when they run out of arguments or know they have been subdued. You state that not only you but other people as well think this way. Those people you fail to identify. Perhaps because they don't exist; perhaps because, even if they may exist and agree with you, they do so far from as aggressively as you would like them to.

Kate is not creating a false impression of a wild animal. You only need to have seen one documentary about lions to know what they are capable of, what they eat and how they hunt it down first. If anything we need more photos like this one, to make up for the image the media gives of lions when, for instance, one has turned to man-eating down in Africa.

Im not the one being rude, try people like Hix to start with, she was one of the ones I was told "owns" the site and pretty much what she says goes, and how dare anyone argue with her, seems that was true doesnt it!;)

I also cannot see where I have been rude to anyone?

Im not negative towards Zoo's otherwise I wouldnt spend hundreds of pounds each year visiting them, to look at, admire and photograph the animals. Photography has taught me much more about Zoos Ill admit, by spending more time there, however if I dont agree with something, Ill say so, seems that many wont though, shame, nothing changes behind closed doors does it? And of closed doors, take all the photos you want behind them, but photos like this will be the target for many "antis" and believe me I know all about "antis" Ive been targeted for years for my support of hunting and working my dogs!

I would love to know who warned you about Hix? I don't find her rude, I often enjoy her responses to threads. Seems you have a bee in your bonnet after being warned as I have not seen a problem.

I think you will find most people on here do say something but just not in your rude manner. I think you will find that people will be more receptive of you and your idea/opinions if you went about it in a different manner. ;)

So let me understand this, your saying nothing changes if you don't say something yet you think this photo is a disgrace but your happy for them to take the photos as long as they don't post them in public? Are you jealous you didn't get to pet the lion?

So killing animals for the sheer fun of it with no impact on the balance of nature is less disrespectful to wild animals then sitting near one/holdig one whilst keeping the animal's needs in mind?

Surely one of the great things about zoos is how we can, just for one day, bridge the gap between us and the wild whilst not making a complete mockery of it (ie; drugged tiger cuddles in Thailand). When I was at Longleat a couple of days ago, I was amazed at just how close I got to the animals whilst keeping healthy respect for them; the car driving right past unconcerned animals in the Safari, feeding the sea lion bull buster with fish from the boat, having bats brush past my hair, holding a tarantula: It's these sort of things that have fueled my love for animals and in turn zoos and conservation, things that have fueled my dream to be a keeper and travel the world to see rare species' in their natural habitat. So if a keeper like Kate knows there is a trust between her and her animal and he will accept her near him with an appropiate barrier of both physical safety and respect, surely she can do this to fuel the reason why animals is our field of interest.

In the first half of this paragraph, you say that you do not think she is doing her job wrong, yet later on you are correcting what she is doing and say she is "creating the wrong impression of a wild animal" and that she shouldn't "fuss and pet [it]". Sorry if I misunderstand, but how is this not telling her that she is doing her job wrong?

I will also point out that you train dogs, I would hazard a guess that you "fuss and pet" your animals (which you call "wild" in a previous post) far more than Kate does with Kamal. Not only that, but didn't you also say you won best bitch at Cruft's last year, I think that's flaunting your "degredation" far more than Kate has here ;).

PS. I also value Hix's contributions and do not think that she (always thought you were male :s) believes she owns the site, I would be interested to know where you heard this from.

I am a male (or I was last time I looked). Not sure where you got the idea I was female (probably the same place that told you lions don't snarl).

I don't own the site, or even think I do. Maybe your friends are talking about another site where I used to be a Moderator - my behaviour there was very different to how I behave on this site.

In the past year I have politely disagreed with people over issues, and often agreed to disagree. I have made it a point to address the issue, not he person.

That changed a couple of days ago when a PETA plant appeared and tried to drum up support for boycotting a zoo. My posts in that thread were less diplomatic.

And then this thread started. As I said in a previous post, non-zoo people telling keepers how to do their job is something that really gets my hackles up. So I felt compelled to respond, even though I knew I shouldn't (but it was around 2am and my judgement wasn't too good at that hour).

So whoever gave Dawn B that background (mis)information on me has given her a bum steer.

:p

Oh dear, Baldur, re-read the thread and see that I was NOT the only one that disagreed with it. ;):D

You are stooping and grasping now Taun, its not pleasant to watch. I said (if you read) what people do behind closed doors is nobodys business but their own, however on a public forum it becomes everyones business and they should consider what impact that has on themselves and their place of work, NOT a good one in this instance!

Who has been warned? Please explain? The only warning I recieved was weeks ago for not attributing a Zoo to a thread. HOW AWFUL OF ME!
