What sticks in my mind about this enclosure was that the pool always had lots of coins on the bottom that people had thrown in. Unfortunately, some people just don't think about the welfare of the animals when they do things like that.
No they were two old males that had been at the zoo many years. I believe they're only kept at Edinburgh and Birdland now and the captive population is still male high.
