Did this exhibit hold cassowary in 2011? On my visit the okapi were in the paddocks on the opposite side of the gorilla house but this doesn't really seem to fit.

Yes; it previously held cassowaries, and zebras before them.

Did Bristol Zoo move all of the okapis out to its new facility?

Yes. For the first time since Okapi arrived at Bristol Zoo, circa 1962, there are none on the city Zoo site.

Originally for many years they lived in a small stable and simple paddock in the SE corner of the Zoo. Later they moved to this enclosure, replacing Zebras which left the Zoo. Then to the paddock and renovated quarters in the Gorilla/Elephant building mentioned above. Finally, when the Gorilla half of that building was recently extended, they were relocated back to here.

Additionally, during the 1960-70's era other Okapis bred at the Zoo were held at the 'Wild Place'(as it is now) site which was not then open to the public.

The stables housing the okapi at the 'Wild Place' are the same ones ( now totally renovated ) that housed them there many years ago .
