Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby

why is it sitting on a chest of drawers covered in what looks like bird droppings? I thought this was a brand new exhibit opened?

This is a view into the indoor housing of the enclosure, which is made to look like an abandoned shack in the outback :) I'd assume that once the exhibit is up and running, the various bird species to be introduced into the walkthrough will also have access. On the day, the wallabies were a bit skittish and remaining indoors, rather than using the walkthrough enclosure.

Was looking forward to first pix of this eye-catching species at Bristol- but hopping across rocks rather than in this sort of setting. :( I don't think Rock Wallabies enter abandoned shacks in the wild,;) they stay higher up on cliff faces though they do come down lower at night to feed. The exhibit overall seems up to usual good Bristol standard though.

I suppose it's just a way of making the indoors look like more than just an internal sleeping area :p the overall exhibit was indeed very good; I look forward to seeing it in action once the wallabies are less skittish.

I've said this in another thread but I think that this enclosure could be the second best new exhibit to open in the UK this year with a very choice species. Obviously Islands is going to be far superior but this is still quite special. ;)
