A gorgeous species, and one which I was fortunate enough to see for the first time at Walsrode in June.

Interestingly enough, ZTL does not list this taxon as a former holding for Bristol; do you happen to know roughly when they ceased to hold the species?

Chester Zoo received 2 birds in January 1977, could these be the birds formerly at Bristol?

2 chicks were hatched in 1981 but were not reared, an almost U.K. first breeding.

If ZTL is correct, Walsrode is the only collection holding this species in Europe - which seemed like a good reason to scan my slide :). I think that ZTL is data deficient for many UK collections in the 1970s and '80s - but I have no idea when these birds left Bristol. I remember visiting in 1976, but I don't think I visited again for several years.

Quite possibly; I do remember seeing them at Chester, but of course they could have been newly imported.
