Male Drill Feb 1972

This animal was called "Ugly", he was the last Drill at Chessington, he had sired at least two young , and killed a female mate also, which is why he was kept alone thereafter.
This rare photo shows the cage style of the zoo during the 60s and 70s.
Drill just doesn't seem a species a (then) small collection like Drusillas would have unless the animal was offered to them or passed on from somewhere else. Hence my supposition about its origin.

The Drill definately went to Hotham from Chessington, I get the feeling the Drill had to be moved quickly for it`s own safety from the adult male at Chessington, he was nasty, and killed one female there, perhaps this is why it seems a strange place for it to end up. Hotham had some small primate enclosures and they had various young monkeys at one time and another.

Thank you , well I don`t know because Hotham had a pair of Serval which later went on to Drusillas when it closed, so perhaps a Drill went too ??

The servals went to Drusillas when the collection was closing down. The Chessington Drill definately came to Bognor and there was a good group of primates there at the time. I am almost certain the Drill went to Drusillas and the care that was given during the transfer led to the servals, which had been pets and were really on an informal kind of loan to the Hotham Park collection being placed there later on. Thanks for the kind comments about the book!
