The second Parrot House to be constructed at Chester Zoo. The exhibit consisted of 8 aviaries on each side in two blocks of four with double doors for public acces dividing them. The aviaires were constructed at a 45 degree angle to the pathway in an attempt to do away with the traditional square cage look. The outer aviaires were made from strong weld-mesh, the inside ones had double-glazed windows which were hot wired to provide extra warmth. Access between the two was by human- sized doors in the spring and summer, and by parrot- sized holes in the winter or cold weather.
The western end of the house consisted of a keepers' office and kitchen and the eastern end had a glass fronted aviary where softbills could be housed.
The aviary in the middle was constructed in 1982 originally for Vernal Hanging Parrots, but also housed lories, the last occupants were 1.1 Talaud Red and Blue Lory.
Most of the birds kept here bred extremely well, the main exception being the Palm Cockatoos.
