I am told it was where the Condor Cliffs now is, makes sense seeing as the only scope for a pit is already elevated ground - ie the bridge between East and West Zoo
 
The bears were kept on the site now occupied by the condor aviary. When the enclosure was first opened it was possible to walk all the way round. The walkway was closed in the 1980s when it became unsafe.
