WOW!! I Knew that the zoo had Malayan sun bears but I didn't know it wasin that enclosure. It's the old bush dog enclosure near the pedestrian entrance now isn't it?
 
That's right. It has also housed Bagot goats, brown bear cubs, Central American agoutis, agile wallaby and tammar wallaby. Probably many other species I can't now remember as well.
 
That's what it was like in the 1950s/60s. I think it was terrible, and far too small, even for such a small bear. Remember though it was built just after the war and building materials and labour were in short supply. I ber it was an improvement on their earlier housing, which was probably just a very small barred cage.
