Chester's Chimp Islands, 2007

I just thought that i'd upload the current version of the 1957 pic of the Chimp Islands. It's taken from the Realm of the Red Ape pathway and is taken from a pretty similar angle.

Oh it makes sense now i had the idea that the original picture was taken from the lemur island when in fact it was taken here.

How many chimpanzees are at the zoo, and how does this exhibit compare to the orangutan, capuchin, mandrill, macaque habitats?

Last time i checked there was about 30 chimps.

The island is in very similar style to the other primate outdoor areas. Very thick vegetation (chosen especially because the apes don't like the taste) and lots of tall climbing and hiding oppurtunities. I would say the indoor area could do with an upgrade (it's 20 years old) but it's not particularly bad.
