It's that time of year again. That girl looks gravid to me. Last time I was at the zoo there was a little male sunbathing on the window frame where he could look across at the capuchins.
I've often seen them in full view of other visitors who cannot find them until the lizard is pointed out. Their camouflague is really good. I've also been asked if I've seen the adders by pople reading the British reptiles sign and thinking there are some in the exhibit.
I used to keep these very many years ago before it was illegal to do so. There were several sites where I knew of thriving colonies on the South coast- some have gone but others are probably still there.
i think you have to have a license to even touch one nowadays. I used to catch them with my bare hands...
I knew a boy who kept dozens of them in a huge metal tank- he had unknowingly wiped out a complete colony. Before anybody gets too irate, this was all circa 50 years back.
I imagine the ones at Chester originate from Southport/Lytham St Annes? They are supposed to be slightly differently marked to the Southern ones but I have never seen any noticeable difference.
