Sarikei and Iznee

Bornean orang utans, Realm of the Red Ape, Chester, 13th June 2009
Sarikei is truly brachiating here - swinging along using only her arms. Orangs generally climb quadrumanously, by holding on with three limbs and moving the fourth.
Sarikei always holds Iznee's hand between her lips when she moves.
I knew I had stumbled across Sarikei`s first son the last days and have just checked the orang utan studbook from 2007 - his name is Matu, born 1995,

Presumably the father was Anak(ex London Zoo) as he was Chester's previous breeding male with a long gap until these recent breedings.

I also had an older(2002) orangutan studbook but sadly lost all the data when my old computer packed up and I couldn't retrieve it.:( I rather miss having it.

Yes, the father was Anak. I don`t have a digital copy of the studbook, just a bunch of paper (not that I would complain!).

I have a number of older copies in book form too but of course they don't include all the changes in recent years. Still useful for tracing historic data though. (I had a Drill one on the old computer too and a load of Gorilla data.:()
