porcupine enclosure Chester Zoo 15 October 1983

Porcupine enclosure at Chester Zoo. This exhibit was built in the 1950s and usually had Indian Crested Porcupines in it. Other animals I remember seeing there were raccoon dogs and common raccoons. This enclosure was demolished in 1996 when the condor aviary was built.

The steps either side of the enclosure led to a short raised walkway overlooking a pit in which wolverines were once kept. This area later became part of the Maned Wolf enclosure.

It also had coypus. The enclosure behind had badgers and cassowaries at different times.
