This is a new addition.

Visitors can donate £1 and press a button where they want their money to go to (options such as RORA maintenance, Orang sanctuaries or other conservation options).

Visitors also get a badge in return.

I believe Congo at the Bronx has a similar system.

They have one in Orangutan Forest at Colchester - the proceeds go to BOS and there's 4 different badges to collect. I've got duplicates of my duplicates as I donate each time i go!! :D

Think this is really good idea, I wonder if they will introduce these machines to other exhibits around the zoo

I suppose it will depend on how popular the first one turns out to be. I know the Colchester BOS one does get a lot of donations and many badges are on display as you walk round.

can you name all of the options?

when i go i will get all of them!

Visited today and made a note of each option (and how much each has earned as of 10:30am on 30th July 2009)

1. Realm of the Red Ape exhibit upkeep (£871)

2. Government lobbying to stop logging (£151)

3. Development of eco-tourism (£95)

4. Training of national park wardens (£282)

5. Educating the local people in Borneo and Sumatra (£80)

and cat-man, there's only one badge design regardless of which option you choose.

Is it just me or does the one that has raised the most money have the smallest effect on saving orang-utans.
