Postcard Letter

Undated postcard letter of the Chester Zoo.
Fascinating. What date was this, roughly? Anyone remember where that bridge was and what was in the building?

The building was Bridge Cafe (the name can be seen undernath the picture if you look closely.) The photo seems to be sometime in the 1960s.

The bridge is on the path from Islands in Danger to the Cattle House. There are toilets opposite the site of the cafe now, the lake is still there, surrounding lemur island.

The cafe was last lsited on the zoo map in January 1969, although it was shown on every successive guide until the map was re-drawn in 1982. I don't know when it was demolished but 1981 would be a good guess. I don't remember seeing it myself.

The eland are in the enclosure opposite the Tsavo Rhino House, the meerkats are living in the house which was formerly the indoor accomodation for the eland, and everything else housed there including alpaca, warthog, lechwe, sable antelope and South American tapir. I've probably forgotten one or two as well.
