A hugely underrated and overlooked exhibit at Chester, yet in my mind one of the finest aviaries in the world.

Ok, from memory (!)

Waldrapp
Black Stork
European Spoonbill
Little Egret

European Griffon Vulture
European Black Vulture

Northern Lapwing
Common Stone-Curlew (are these still there?)

Rock Dove

Red-billed Chough

Marbled Teal
Red-breasted Goose
Lesser White-fronted Goose
Ferruginous Duck
White-headed Duck
Black-billed Whistling Duck (supposed to be in there temporarily but it's coming on 2 years now by my reckoning!)

Hmm... feeling I've missed some. There have been a few other things in the past, including White Storks and Common Golden Plover.

These are really starting to bug me now - there's any number of places around the zoo that they could put them,

No worries! Just thought of another past resident - Red-legged Partridges. I quite miss those.

Tell me about it!

There aren't any stone curlew at Chester now. Wasn't there also ruff and avocet when it opened? I also saw a hare in this aviary in 1995.

I think you're right on the Avocets - don't remember ever seeing Ruff at Chester though. Well done on the hare!

Thinking about it, I'm sure the ruff were in the ibis aviary by the orang utans.
