Baby Rajang - Jan 1969

This is a picture of Rajang at Chester Zoo where he was born, at the age of 7 months.

He moved to Colchester Zoo in 1980.

I know it is so wrong!

I just cannot but help loving pictures like this.

As l believe in the moment this picture was taken both Ape and boy have a beautiful connection.

I think the boy may be the son of Bill Timmis (an Australian..) who was then Chester's curator and (I believe) raised Rajang in his home early on.

This is the accompanying blurb from that edition of Chester Zoo news:

@Pertinax I know Rajang well as my father Eric worked with Bill Timmis at Chester before they later moved together to run Harewood House collection in Yorkshire. Bill had a daughter Nicole, but I don't recall him having a son. If my father didn't go with him then we quite often baby sat Bills house in the zoo grounds while he was away travelling. That usually meant Orangutan or chimps to feed. In those days George Mottershead was still alive of course. We quite often had primates at our house at the behest of George. I recall Rajang being a great shot with a flying turd!
