The D300 is the best camera I have ever owned; I can't say it's better than any other model, because I have never used anything but Nikon for the past 5 years, but I wouldn't swap it for anything (other than a D3 ).
I use the latest Nikon 500mm f/4 AFS VR lens, which is the sharpest lens I've ever owned (you can't tell that from the small images I post here, but take my word for it). It ought to be wonderful because it was very expensive. I thought very hard before I bought it, and I struggled with it at first, but I love it dearly now.
Wish I had the money to expand upon my photography. I have a Canon 350D with a Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 55-250mm (just typing what it says on the lens, hopefully someone will know what I mean ). The photos that I take with this are not bad (it has a decent enough zoom for what I need and most images are sharp/clear enough) yet the photos still lack a certain 'something' that makes them look professional (probably just my photography )
