New Stand-Off Barriers - 17/09/2010

New stand-off barriers, which have been on the cards for a while, are now being erected along the sides of the ungulate paddock walkways.

They're not really a stand-off or much of a barrier, and they're deliberately all wonky. It remains to be seen what impact they'll have on the traditional views across the paddocks, it'll be easier to tell when there are more of them.

Awww, I loved these paddocks for the fact there was just a low brick wall seperating me from a good shot :(. Now I'm gonna have to kneel right down or stand on tippy-toes so that I can photograph the oryx/zebra without the bar striking through it's middle. Still, that may not be the case.

In my opinion, it will make photography alot easier in this area! I always love to have a barrier to rest my camera on at exhibits.

I like low stone walls and low brick walls as barriers too, but there's just too much risk of some kid falling in. Just look at Levan Merritt - and that wall was twice the height of the one in this picture.

Chester's stone walls have done the job for the last forty plus years, but perhaps people are getting more stupid as time passes. The odd thing is, the large gap under the new stand-offs would still allow small children to topple over the wall, and might even encourage some children to duck down beneath it so maybe they'll fill the gaps with wire.

Unfortunately with "health and safety" laws being what they are, there's really no avoiding these things, even though the zoo's estates staff hate them. That said, I'd much prefer to see a neat fence rather than more wonky wood.

Given that the planet is an inanimate object and without an IQ then it must be constant, but evolution tells us that the IQ of its inhabitants should increase. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case!

That's kinda what I was saying - you overanalysed it!

My IQ is that low that first of all I thought it meant 2 or 3 people standing outside an opticians

Sorry could not resist!

I am not aware that the Theory of Evolution has anything to say about I.Q., only survival.

Good one!
