Padang

Subadult male Sumatran orang. He was separated from the others as he is about to move to the Continent. He seemed a little bored, banging in the wire and spinning rapidly from a strap, hanging on with his feet, head-down. I tried to use my long lens, but he kept coming up to the window to look at it. He is a typical subadult Sumatran male. Sumatrans(both sexes) sometimes seem to wear a 'surprised' expression due to their longer face shape, which you don't get in Borneans.

Another few years and you won't recognise him. Its always a dramatic change, after a growth spurt and with facial pads and long flowing hair he'll look like Puloh.

Lucky guy :p, Puluh is a fine specimen of an animal. A great orang.

I hope he will look a little like old Oscar, his grandfather, who I always thought was a very handsome orang. But I am sure that he will find a way to impress the ladies.

Padang is actually a third generation zoobred animal, isn't he.

Henry/Ann- 1. Oscar/Ramona(also zoo born) -2.Puloh/Emma(or Subis).- 3. Padang.

I'm sure he will breed at Prague with Jersey's Mawar- he is mother-raised and she has two offspring already- the elder son is nearly the same age as Padang!;)

I love the expression too - it's the eyes looking shiftily to his left that make me chuckle! All of Chester's Orangs are very social animals they come over to interact with the hairless apes on the other side of the glass quitr often!

In the interests of accuracy, it's 'Puluh' rather than 'Puloh'. ;)

You are right, I've been misspelling it for years I can see!.:o (Don't know why though.) And there was me correcting Javan Rhino on the Magadi spelling....:o
