As predicted, the male Temminck's tragopan (Tragopan temminckii) has started to display to his female.

Typically, he's doing it in a really awkward spot and facing into the enclosure - hence another poor photo - but it's still an impressive sight to see his tail and wings fanned, his bib fully extended and his horns raised.

I'm sure tragopans do not like you SMR. They certainly give you a lot of trouble.

Garr, there goes any ideas I had on a race to see it displaying :p. Very nice though in seriousness - something to look out for on Sat :)

(question: How often do they display in general? A few times an hour, once a day, every couple of weeks?)

Great shot (despite the bird's awkwardness!).

Never seen them display at Chester but we got a brief view of a similar performance from a Temminck's at Cotswold at the start of the month. Stunning display.

Blimey!
Well done SMR!
I have the urge to stake him out next weekend (weather permitting of course).

Alan

I didn't think this photo was up to much and it should be possible to get a better shot with some patience. I'd have staked the bird out too, but Zoogiraffe wanted to see something else in the zoo. What a pest. ;)
