Hyacinthine macaws

I very rarely consider portrait format images - but I was thinking of some of SMR's shots as I was cropping this one. Aviary attached to Tropical House, Chester, 16th April 2011

In which case I feel the need to apologise.

This is actually a tremendous shot, not just because of the composition but because it's almost impossible to get a good view of the birds and not have something horrible in the background.

Lovely shot. Good enough for a postcard. Do you ever do postcard shots for them ? (I might have asked this before!)

Don't apologise SMR! I was despairing of getting anything acceptable from my landscape format original, I tried a square crop and that didn't work either - and then one or two of your portrait format bird shots popped into mind, so I tried cropping the central section at 3:4 ratio - and this image appeared :) Thank you!
I should add that I do agree with you about the problems of shooting them. This is the first photo I've ever taken in that aviary. I wouldn't even have bothered looking into it except that I noticed some other ZooChatters doing so, while I was failing to get anything with the capuchins.

Pertinax, I have did a little photography for the aquarium many years ago, but I have never done anything like postcards (or even sent photos to the Zoo's website).

Thank you all

Alan
