I didn't know you had Tuatara there..! Awesome..! Make sure you look after them, no one really knows how long they live but most likely 100 years + !!!
A tuatara in full view! That is rather unique in a zoo environment. Are they soooo that visible then? Any indication that they might ever breed (having 1.5)?
Jelle, if you catch them at the right times they are visible, but for the majority they are hidden in burrows. The zoo even challenges visitors to find them!
I don't think they have ever bred at Chester before and I am not sure if they will soon...
They passed away in the late 1980`s early 90`s not sure about anymore than that,apart from they never breed and i believe never showed any signs of breeding.
