Bornean orang-utan

I saw it later pulling up all the bushes in it's enclosure. Well most of them!!!
There was one female pulling up a bush, one asleep against a door, with a sack n her head, and this one was quite active, and is the one that you can see moving across the wal in my film.

Sorry, I don't know names.

Nice to see an orangutan in natural foliage (something that is virtually impossible to find here in America).

Unfortunately, the one day I was at Chester Zoo (and I was there from open until close) I missed the orangutan exhibit because the zoo is so big and because of course I spent an inordinate amount of time at the jaguars. If I ever go back (and I do want to go back), I think I will schedule two days at Chester Zoo.

Unfortunately the natural vegetation in the outdoor Bornean orang cages has suffered a good deal in the 4 years since this photo was taken. I remember seeing Leia (in this photo) and her sister Sarikei having a wonderful time uprooting a small conifer and most of the shrubs have now gone.
The plants in the Sumatran outdoor enclosures have done much better (the enclosures are considerably larger) but virtually all the plants in their indoor enclosures have been killed.
