Spectacled bear 'Franka'

Posing nicely. Chester, 15th October
...... my pet hate is 'Philippine eagle'.

I entirely agree; Pithecophaga jefferyi will always be the monkey-eating eagle to me, I’ll never start calling this species Philippine eagle.

Several of my other pet hates have already been mentioned in earlier posts in this thread. Others that irritate me are:-

• "Philippine spotted deer" instead of "Prince Alfred's deer"
• "black wildebeest" instead of "white-tailed gnu"

Getting back to the topic of the thread; that's a lovely photograph of a spectacled bear.

ISIS calls it a spectacled bear. I rest my case!

Actually ISIS also uses some damn silly names for other species, so I reserve the right to pick and choose ;)

Yesterday zoogiraffe and I toured the shop at Chester ('Traders of the Lost Ark' (sic) :(). We couldn't find any postcards at all!

I think it's about time we started seeing new postcards, I don't think the old sea lion and veiled chameleon ones are that relevant any more :p

Why not submit this one with the suggestion of them using it for a postcard? It's certinley good enough and I'm sure you'd be able to retain copyright...

Last time I went to Chester(several years ago unfortunately) they still had a good range of postcards on sale. I wonder if they've now decided they aren't worth(financially) producing them anymore, compared to the more expensive goods you get in Gift shops?
