Wonder what makes some elephant cows this funny 'dumpy' shape with small/short legs. Is it genetic, due to poor early rearing/feeding or just an individual trait. I have seen photos of others in the past like this, some even more prounced than 'Maya'.

This characteristic is clearly shown by comparison with the shot I took a few seconds after this one showing Jangoli, who is particularly long-legged. Maya has never had calves so we can't tell about genetics. It could be a local characteristic - I wonder how much is known about where Maya was captured.
