Sign in the cactus grow zone

A sign for those that evolution forgot
Well I was buying a cactus at a garden centre once and accidentally just brushed it with my hand, spent the next hour or so picking very fine needles out of my hand!

Try spending a day pickaxing and digging fully grown old man cactus out of the African Bush in 30°C heat - the group of us were picking spines out of each other for the rest of the evening - it was like watching Primates grooming :D

Ecellent, can think of no better way to spend time than picking whopping great thorns out of friends :p

You were Primates grooming.

Should you find yourself with cactus spines in your skin again, you might try this: apply a layer of rubber cement. Let dry. Peel off. ;)

This looks like a teddy bear cholla (pronounced choy-ya). At the Joshua Tree National Park in the Mojave Desert they have a natural garden of this species with a trail through it and signs all over that warn people not to "pet" the chollas, because they do look cute and fuzzy, belying their true sharp and nasty disposition. My mother-in-law stopped my father in law just as he was about to pet one. We now have a family saying, "don't pet the cholla, or it will annoy-ya".
