Does this use the new finer mesh? If so good improvement. I like the new mesh, seems to be replacing glass and netting across the zoo.

It is the new mesh, and that's because Andrew Owen likes people to be able to hear the birds... well, at least the scant few in his "private collection" he's allowing the visiting public to see.

It's not the easiest stuff to take photographs through though.

Yes, not thought of the impact on all you photographers.... But for us viewing it does offer a much better experience.

It is a shame so many birds off view. I'm certain the parrots bred better in the old public aviary than they do in the off show facility!! Having said that Tsavo Aviary has got to be one of my favourite exhibits ever..... So it's not all bad.

I believe that was indeed the case, and all the difference species both there and in the old circular aviaries were visible too. The tragopans also bred on-show, but have now been taken off-show.

The Tsavo Aviary is an excellent exhibit, one of the zoo's best recent additions, it's just a shame that Andrew Owen is increasingly treating the remainder of the zoo as his private collection.
