Chester Zoo Memories
I'm sure many ZooChat members search this site in the hope of finding old photos of Chester Zoo. Pictures which bring on a feeling of warm nostalgia. Species no longer kept, lost enclosures, lost corridors. I thought it might be nice if members added them with the title 'Chester Zoo Memories' to make searching easier... What do you think? I'll be adding more Memories over time. As a child, this was one of my favorite enclosures at Chester Zoo. The old bear pit, originally built in the 1940s had two enclosures a concrete pool for Polar bears. Later drained of water and used to house brown bears, and a rather muddy mound with small pool housing Himalayan Bears. This enclosure was alongside the Sealion pool (Giant Otter Pool). Demolished in 1979 to make way for the South American Garden This rather uninspiring garden had South American plants eg potatoes and was apparently when viewed from space in the shape of South America!
