When l visited last month, keepers were trying to separate him from a lioness in the large outdoor enclosure, he was not at all interested in letting her go.
It was a very impressive show he put on intimidating her with loud raws and aggressive body language, she was being totally submissive.
The keeper was trying to lure him away from her with food however he was only slightly interested. This went on for about 15 minutes.
At a guess l would say the female was new or in heat.
hi Ibils is a very dominating lion by what i have seen of him, i would guess the lioness was in heat, but he can become aggressive when its feeding time
there is two Asiatic female lions, one is young the other older, so she could have been in heat, but its hard to say without being there
