Parrot House memories, 25th October 2004

It was nice to be able to see so many parrots, but the building was not very satisfactory for breeding (although there were some successes). I am glad it had to be demolished to make way for RotRA.

I didn't think you would be.
But we can both agree that its demolition should have been compensated by a bigger, better parrot exhibit - just four species on show now.

I can certainly agree with that. As I have not visited the zoo since 2008 I do not know which four species are currently on show, but four is a poor total indeed. I was most unhappy that the new Parrot House was just about all off-show and when I last looked at the stock list there were some real gems tucked away behind the scenes.

Derbyan parakeets, lilacine amazons, blue-throated and hyacinthine macaws are on show - with binoculars you can glimpse grey-breasted conures, Mount Apo lorikeets, and even lories and cockatoos in the breeding aviaries.
