There will also be spaces when the crested macaques and warty pigs move, plus the birds and reptiles for which we don't know many details as yet. I hope that the zoo will be able to remodel and update some exhibits, such as the tiger enclosure and Islands in Danger. There is great potential for exciting developments
The one left by the macaques is the most interesting gap to me - that's the largest Monkey Islands exhibit and raises the tantalising possiblity of some new larger monkeys coming in (even if other species shuffle along at the same time). One can hope, eh?
Although it did occur to me on Sunday at the zoo that it'll also be very interesting to see what replaces the Babirusa (assuming, as originally stated, the ASCOtters move as well).
Thanks for the replies. I loved Chester Zoo when I visited a couple of years ago and plan on making it back there soon. This new development only sweetens the deal.
Also feels that RORA needs another addition as the Borneans will not really fill the 5 indoor and 2 outdoor enclosures (especially as they are less active than the Sumatrans), even if they adapt one to make it suitable for Tuan will still be quite a few empty spaces....?

I wouldn't be too sure. Remember that adult Bornean orang males normally have to be kept alone and certainly can't be trusted with infants or juveniles, and old Martha will need some peace and quiet too.
In addition they may take the opportunity to make some modifications - I hope they will add sway poles to the indoor areas (there are only 3 in the new part BTW) and I wonder if they will construct off-show 'bedrooms' to make management a little easier, as they won't be able to run them all together like the Sumatrans. The two roofed outdoor areas badly need freshening up, maybe one of them can be adapted for Tuan as you suggest.
That would leave some space in the old house and the island at the end, which I have always thought could make a very nice aviary. The other obvious alternative would be to bring in a few more orangs, which might be the best solution.
Are the Komodo dragons staying in Islands in Danger, or are they moving to the new Islands? I can't see any mention of them and they would be an obvious species for the new area.

I've always thought that the Islands developmet would be a good opportunity to finally get rid of the cattle house. Congo Buffalo could stay in the Banteng paddock without much trouble and Malayan Tapir could fit in one of the suid exhibits, although that said they could really do with indoor viewing.
